To showcase more of what our Apprentice Program is about, we talked to Fourth Year Apprentice at Hallam Truck Centre, Jonno Wolf, and Second Year Apprentice at Bayswater Truck Centre, Lachie Griffiths, about the many benefits of completing a Diesel Technician Apprenticeship at Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres.

One of the key benefits that Apprentices Jono and Lachie, highlighted about being a part of the Apprenticeship Program at Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centres, is the range and quality of tools they get to work with.
“Your knowledge will expand, there’s a great amount of tools available to do your job so you’re not struggling, and the facilities are good too,” says Jono.

Lachie adds, “If anything’s broken, it gets replaced pretty quickly as well.”

One of the major draw cards for choosing to be a part of our Service Centre team is the variety of work that exists within in our workshops. Our large network of customers mean apprentices aren’t working on the same thing everyday and gain valuable experience across a range of applications. 

For Jono, this made Hallam Truck Centre an easy choice for his Diesel Technician Apprenticeship. “At my age picking an apprenticeship is pretty daunting, I wanted to pick the best option I could. I wanted to find one that worked on the new trucks, worked on the old trucks and had a good variety of work, and a decent training regime. This is the one that showed up.”

Now in the fourth year of his apprenticeship, the variety of work in our Service Centres has proven itself to Jono.

“We work on the brand new DAF’s, like the XF, to 1980’s freightliners. You’ll do everything from rear-end rebuilds, to front-end rebuilds, trailers, vans, buses, anything and everything in between” says Jono.

This is also true of Bayswater Truck Centre, with Lachie admitting that this is his favourite aspect of the apprenticeship program. “What I like most about the Apprentice program is the variety of work we get.” 

In addition to the state-of-the-art tools and diverse range of work, the supportive culture at Hallam and Bayswater Truck Centres, and the encouragement apprentices receive from their mentors has not gone unnoticed by Jono and Lachie.

“The thing I like most about being part of the team, is the team. Guys here have a wealth of knowledge. They’re good to have a laugh with, good to have a yarn with, nutting out problems if it’s the first time you’ve encountered it, and always willing to give you a hand when you’re stuck,” explains Jono.

“If I’ve got questions, and I don’t know how to do it, the boys will go through it with me. If I don’t remember it and I need to know it again, they’ll tell me again. How we’re treated and the schooling we get is very well organized,” adds Lachie.
