You may remember that our Bayswater Diesel Technician, Grant Brown, took home the title of Kenworth Technician of the Year last year. Following that incredible achievement, we’re extremely proud to announce that Grant has been recognised as the 2025 DAF Technician of the Year!

Each year, service technicians and apprentices from across PACCAR Australia dealership network are invited take part in the Technician of the Year competition to recognise and reward their skills and expertise. 

The finals took place in mid-March at PACCAR Australia’s Bayswater manufacturing plant, where each competitor underwent a rigorous full day of theoretical assessments under pressure which mirrored the demands of a busy service department.

Five practical tests, covering electrical, mechanical and system testing, evaluated each competitors technical expertise, product knowledge, engine and driveline proficiency, and professionalism.

Following the assessments, competitors, their special guests, dealership management and PACCAR Australia representatives were invited to attend a special awards dinner held at Fox Classic Car Collection where all the winners would be revealed.

When it was time to announce the DAF Technician of the Year, our team were abuzz with excitement and were extremely proud to have Grant announced as this year’s winner!

Once on stage, Grant was presented with the DAF Technician of the Year trophy by PACCAR Australia Managing Director, Damian Smethurst, Steven Tomaro, PACCAR Australia After Sales Manager and PACCAR Australia Technical Trainer, Andy Paterson, plus, a $5,000 Snap-on Tools voucher and $5,000 VISA voucher.



Reflecting on Grant’s performance, Damian said, “Grant’s assessment today was outstanding. Congratulations to him on a well-deserved win.”

Grant was also extremely proud to have his hard work and expertise acknowledged.

“I am extremely happy with the win and thank the other finalists for helping make it great day. My thanks also go to PACCAR Australia for running such a great and worthwhile competition,” said Grant.

Joining Grant on the night was Andrew Bramley, Bayswater Truck Centre Service Manager, who said, “We are thrilled that Grant has won this award, it’s a testament to his own personal drive and capability and the great support within the Bayswater service team.”

Hallam & Bayswater Truck Centre’s General Manager, Matt Keene was also proud to join in Grant’s achievement on the night.

“We are thrilled that Grant has won this award. Thank you to Andrew and the Bayswater team for their tremendous support and also to Grant for his dedication to his craft,” said Matt.

Grant came to Bayswater Truck Centre as a young secondary student in Year 11 wishing to do a school-based apprenticeship. Grant worked as a school based apprentice during year 11 and 12 and upon completing school, Grant became a full time apprentice with us. In 2021, Grant completed his apprenticeship and thanks to his positive attitude and drive to achieve, he continues to be a valued member of our team. Grants long term career goal is to one day successfully run a service department.  

We were also extremely proud to have participants from our sister dealership, CMV Truck Centre, take part in the PACCAR Australia Technician of the Year competition.

Congratulations to Thomas Whittaker who placed third and Ben Crawford who placed fifth in the Kenworth Technician of the Year competition.
