JAAP Transport’s Ongoing Journey with Hallam Truck Centre
For our team, there's nothing more rewarding than seeing a trucking business grow and thrive with the support of a reliable fleet.
One standout success story we’re proud to be part of is JAAP Transport and their subsidiary operator South Star Logistics, led by the dedicated and driven Channi Dhillon.
What started with a single van has now grown into a fleet of over 35 prime movers - many of which proudly bear the DAF badge.
The initial connection with our team dates back to 2016, when our DAF Sales Consultant, Muza Syed, began introducing Channi to the PACCAR family.
“It took about a year to get him into his first DAF,” said Muza.
“Helping him understand the long-term value of our trucks - particularly the nationwide support and service network - was key. Once he started operating that first unit, the rest is history.”
Channi added his first DAF truck to the JAAP Transport fleet in 2017, purchasing a DAF XF 105 from our team at Hallam Truck Centre.
“I wanted to trial a new truck within my local B-double fleet,” Channi recalled. “The DAF XF105 featured Kenworth components and delivered flawlessly. I had no issues with that truck or any of the initial DAF models I ordered”.
Following the addition, it didn’t take long for Channi to become a DAF believer.
“It worked perfectly,” said Channi. “I never had any issues with the initial DAFs I bought.”
Today, JAAP Transport operates more than 15 DAF trucks, continually rotating and upgrading every few years to ensure peak performance, safety, and efficiency.
For Channi, DAF’s build quality and minimal downtime have been key advantages as he’s expanded his national footprint.
In late 2024, JAAP Transport expanded its fleet with four new DAF XF530 FTT Space Cabs from Hallam Truck Centre. These trucks came equipped with powerful PACCAR MX-13 engines delivering 530HP, matched with 16-speed ZF Traxon transmissions.
They’ve also been fully outfitted with premium additions, including JOST Australia turntables, Koolkat Coolers by Truck Art Melbourne, and UHF radios by Waldron Communications.
Our pre-delivery team also completed the customisation by installing a custom walkplate, PACCAR bullbar, and stone guard.
Another reason why Channi decided to expand his fleet with four more units was thanks to the DAF XF530 FTT range coming with a 4-year / 800,000 km service package, giving him extra piece of mind.
Ahead of its Australia launch in 2024, we were also proud to have JAAP Transport selected as one of the few operators to demo the highly anticipated new DAF XG660 model.
“Our drivers absolutely love it,” said Channi. “The 660HP engine is a game-changer - it handles hills effortlessly and keeps our operations efficient.”
When comparing the two models, Channi identifies benefits with both the XF and all-new XG, and sees them fitting with different applications.
“The latest XF models are incredibly comfortable and packed with advanced safety features. The XG660, with its powerful engine, is ideal for heavy-duty work,” Channi explained.
We can’t thank Channi enough for staying loyal to our dealership family - from his first DAF purchase at Hallam Truck Centre to now working with our newly opened Melbourne North Truck Centre in Somerton, just around the corner from JAAP Transport’s headquarters.
The close proximity to Melbourne North Truck Centre ensures we can provide fast service, easier access to parts, and the kind of ongoing support a growing transport business depends on.
It’s a partnership built on shared goals, and we’re excited to continue growing together.
